Linked To Project: Siyakwazi Early Childhood Development Programme
The Siyakwazi team has grown within the last few years and now consists of 18 volunteers, affectionately referred to as Siyasizas, with additional community members volunteering on a part-time basis. Training these Siyasizas in Early Childhood Development is key to their success. The importance of learning and development among the Siyasizas cannot be overemphasised.
Last year we saw four Siyasizas graduate from their IT End User NQF 2 Learnership and cheered Makhosi along as she wrote some of her final exams for her teaching qualification.
Siyakwazi is currently engaged with 18 Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD) in the Ugu district. A total of 991 children under the age of 5 years are impacted by their ECD services and a total of 756 interventions and/or support visits were conducted at ECD Centres in 2017.
Some of the focus areas include storytelling, making books and toys from waste, language learning and fantasy play.
